You shouldn't be beating your kids, but I have no issue with corporal punishment being on the table as a form of discipline when other methods aren't working. However, the problem is that it's too often used as a way for the parents to vent their aggression, which isn't effective for disciplining the child.

I got it with a belt when I was a kid and I turned it fine. Hell, my grandpa had a real hickory stick, long and flat like a sword. I used to have a scar on my arm from that stick.

These kids today respond to adults with, "what?" and "yeah." It's yes fucking sir and yes ma'am. They'd slap the fucking taste out of your mouth for saying "what" to a teacher when I was growing up.

I don't like the idea of physical discipline (if it can be avoided), but the lack of it has made these modern kids feral. Parents are young and selfish, wanting to be social and desperately cling to their youth, while they expect the teachers to not only teach, but also raise their smart mouth little brats, somehow without ever telling them "no."

These kids are soft and they're weak. They live on the smartphone, computer, tv, etc. These kids don't know the rules to basic sports. If they get knocked down, they don't get up; they cry and blame. A whole generation of kids being raised by kids and Grand Thedt Auto.

Discipline at schools is just a joke. They literally have cops roaming some schools and the kids still fight and steal and disrespect their elders.

If you have to beat your child to get them to respect authority figures then you're a shit parent. There's really no sugar-coated way to say that. Competent parents can manage that easily without beating them.

Exactly. It's a last resort, but when you have a child who refuses to behave, you literally have to show them, "I'm bigger than you and you *will* do as I say." I would never want to be a strict parent, but you can't have a kid that disobeys you when you say to stop blocking traffic in the store or when you say not to do something on general purpose.

It's doing them a favor in the long run. I'm almost 29 years old, and do you think I still don't show respect to my elders or to people in a work environment? Manners lead to social skills and it's no wonder these kids are glued to the Nintendo.

"Oh, the Wii is my kid's exercise and education (and babysitter when I want to go to a concert or a brewery festival)!"
