When to pronounce an R in Britain:

Is there an R in the spelling of the word? If so, then no. If not, then yes.

im not even comparing to americans

stereotypical (i know not all speak like this there) british english seems like it's just missing a lot of sounds. depending on who speaks it, it's actually rather pleasant sometimes (i find it sounds better on men then women)

it just fascinates me how they just totally ignore an entire phoneme (the r sound). it almost sounds like a child speaking that cannot yet pronounce all the sounds yet.

It's called rhoticity. British English has been predominantly non-rhotic since the late 1700s or so.

Is that why people tell me American English more closely resembles how the Brits used to sound than the Brits actually in the UK?
