****OPINION ALERT 5*****
(you're not limited to just one aspect if you wish)

I haven't really played enough of the first few games but I have enough hours to criticize from Morrowind onwards.

Morrowind:
-The "dice roll" system. As in everything has a "chance" to hit or miss/work depending on your skill level. I wasn't fun then or now but it's easy enough to work with.

-Of course, looking back on it, a lot of stuff is dated but that's natural with progression (graphics, physics etc).

Oblivion:

-The leveling system...why even level up in that game? The scaling is horrible.

-The dungeon "variety". From what I understand, the dungeon generation was made by like 5 people or something. Still made one not want to explore.

Skyrim:

-The exploration/shallowness of the world. The dungeons aren't really worth your time unless you need some combat experience. Overall, the world just wasn't very deep and it's a pretty boring base game if you're looking for lots of variety and deeper mechanics.

Let the plot thicken...

Compared to what? If Skyrim had a shallow world then that is a series problem as a whole since Skyrim had a more densely packed game. I would say ES has a far more interesting world than most open world games.

Arena/Daggerfall?

They're pretty good for what they aimed for years ago. Old games are old, though.

I don't particularly have to compare boring dungeons/exploration to other games. Vanilla Skyrim simply lacks enemy variety, interesting loot or a lot of depth.

Skyrim's dungeons are pretty much a "seen one, seen them all" deal.

Yes, the world/lore is very interesting but I'm criticizing the gameplay aspect and it's not unique to Skyrim.

The Witcher 3's Novigrad and other are is pretty boring to me as well from a gameplay standpoint but the lore and world draw you in enough.

Oblivion has an absolutely awful engine

I know Skyrim's is just an upgraded version but it's at least decent

Morrowind's shit combat and Oblivion's shit scaling. As for Skyrim... I guess the writing, or how simplified the series is getting.
