Current Events > I'm starting to realize that I don't think I can live on my own.

By that, I mean living by myself without anyone else. My friends/roommates are going out of town for about a week starting tonight. One of their families have something planned and they wanted us to come out with them.

I don't want to leave the state right now because I'm busy with some other things, so I decided to stay back. They haven't left yet but it got me thinking how much I probably couldn't handle living by myself alone for so long. Not out of fear, but the idea of living somewhere without another person just starts making me feel sad. I decided to call another friend over to kick it with me for the week.

When I was in college I had to stay for work one spring break instead of going home/vacation. The dorm I was living in agreed to let me stay for the week while everyone was gone (I think I had to sign some papers).

That was an insane feeling living in a huge building all by myself for a week. Even on campus I think I saw a total of 10 people.

It was incredibly lonely, but also really cool. It felt like I was in another world

When I first moved out of my parents place, I had moments of loneliness. It was just me in an old two bedroom farmhouse. Have music playing from the time you walk in the door. That constant background noise will help alleviate the fact that you're by yourself. I would only pause it when I'd sit down to watch tv or game.

I guess I'm the complete opposite. I cherish alone time when I can get it. If I had a week where everyone left, it would be amazing. I would get so much done.

It's weird because I actually like those times when everyone leaves and I'm alone for a bit. But the thought of me living somewhere entirely by myself just engulfs me with sadness if I think about it too much.

Same. My house would be much cleaner if my wife left for a week. lol

Why does it make you sad? Living alone in your 20s is great. You have complete control over an entire living space. You have the privacy to do absolutely anything without anyone's judgement.

Why does it make you sad? Living alone in your 20s is great. You have complete control over an entire living space. You have the privacy to do absolutely anything without anyone's judgement.

I enjoy a lot of that aspect but I feel like I need some kind of human companionship majority of the time.
