I've watched like 9 episodes with my gf now, and it's the most extreme parts of anime all condensed into one massive... thing.
Like it's horribly perverted with shallow characters and even more bullheaded plots.

We still are going to watch it because sometimes we want to watch some garbage anime, but it feels wrong.

The characters aren't really shallow by the end. I mean, there's not a ton of plot for everyone but it's not that kind of anime anyway.

It's one of those series where the character designs are so cringy that I don't even want to watch an episode. I know that it was a big thing some years ago, but I'm not sure if that translated to quality.

I'm like 85% sure it's also because part of the plot is how few clothes a character can wear is how powerful they are.
It's like built to be jerked off to.

The soundtrack is good, and it can be quite fun with it's ridiculousness, but I wouldn't call it a good series.

Once you get deeper it should be better. They explain the clothes and while obviously the outfits are skimpy, and it seems the more powerful they are the skimpier they get but there is backstory with the clothes, they're the story essentially.

Overall, I liked it. But I am not a huge anime fan, I've watched two anime series all the way through, one was FLCL and then kill la kill

Also self-parody requires some sort of lampshading, or subverting the overall system, which it has neither of.

Yeah... You'll probably find similar shit for one punch man or mob psycho 100 or Detroit metal city or Keijo too because webs don't want to admit that the best part of their favorite genre does little else than make fun of their favorite genre.

I despise anime 90% of the time and Kill la Kill is great.

I think the second half is much better than the first. Gurren Lagann is similar but better IMO. But overall it's great.

Beginning:
This is really funny and theres lots of new ideas here

Several episodes in:
Was getting started to get tired of the wacky gags, but still enjoyed it

After that:
Okay now its picking up the story is picking up

shortly after that and for the rest of the series:

It's really good.

Maybe drop it for now and come back in a year or two after you've grown a bit. It's just... a fun show to watch. And it's never boring to look at.
