I didn't expect Alverson to be so cool about the whole situation. I thought for sure he was going to be a dick and try to arrest or kill Kvothe because of his wife's hatred for his people.

It's been a strange book, but I enjoy it. I think I liked the first one a bit more, but whatever. I'll finish this tonight, I only have like 30 pages left

Damn it, I can't remember what the Bone Ring was for. . .A bound between two men, he wants him to keep it.

He's on his way back to the University and it was just him quickly telling of his travel on the ship. He played some music, tried to tie some knots, told them about his training with the Adem and threw their best fighter three times when they didn't believe him

LMAO!

The letter says that the Maer would pay any amount for his tuition, and he speaks out loud, "Too bad my tuition is always so low, The University could make a killing here."

Now he just drove the price up for his tuition and is working with the money lender to pocket anything over 10 Talents.

How did you like the Cthaeh btw? It's one of my favorite parts in any book

Nope, it was just quick details about his trip on the boat (Chapter 141). Nothing important happened, so nothing to write about, I guess. I really liked the stuff with the Cthaeh.

Fun thing I didn't realize about the Cthaeh

When Bast freaks out about it he says that the Fae regard it as one of the most evil creatures in existence, he elaborates on the history of it. He says that it's a powerful cultural symbol for them, and that if you see a tree prominently in the background of the first act of a play, you know it will be the worst sort of tragedy.

What's the cover of the first book in the (eventual) Kingkiller trilogy?

Holy shit. . .

I have that cover for the first book, but I have this one for the second -

And not the normal one like this -

Is there a version of this one of the first book?

I never read it because the premise of it just didn't sound interesting to me. I was into KKC for Kvothe, the magic, and the world-building, not Auri.

Ah, I didn't even know what it was about. It's about her, huh? Well like I said, I already have the book thanks to one of the GRRM Novellas, so I might as well when I get to it.

If memory serves correctly with regards to the Auri book

*don't read until you've finished reading the book TC*

the novella heavily hints towards the theory that Kvothe changed his True Name

I can see why people would get sick of that

Mostly I enjoy it as a deconstruction of the concept, as they explain why he's good at these things, and why we never see him do anything poorly because he very specifically avoids shit he's not good at.

Also there's the distinct possibility that Kote is not a reliable narrator

Why is he continuing his school right now? Not Kvothe, but Patrick Rothfuss. He just did two seasons of school in about three pages, and I don't know why he's including this at the END of the book. Almost done, my math must have been fucked. I have 40 pages left, so I think I'll save them for my breakfast in the morning.

Thanks for talking with me, I'll tell you my thoughts when I get home from work tomorrow.

And I'm done

It was a pretty good book, and I'll read the novellas and the next book, but it doesn't seem like a series I would want to re-read. Nothing happened in the closing moments of the book, this is the second book, shouldn't we end it on a huge cliff hanger. However, I do have to admit I don't really understand what Bast is up to, maybe I missed something there. It's just that after he got back to school, it was just 40 or so pages of him just going about his daily life with not much plot development, and then it ends with no flare.

Anyways, thanks again to @Doom_Art, @OctilIery, @sauceje and @RPGaddict28 for hanging out with me

Although I'm not a big fan of the protagonist, I am looking forward to the next book. I find myself regretting reading the series before the last book was out, though; would have preferred reading all three+ in a row.

the real ending is in the frame story though. Where Bast is killing people and with the unopening chest. Those to me are the "hooks" or cliffhangers it ends on.

He tells the Chronicler basically "yeah let's cut it there because it's a good time and shit gets really nasty after"

but yeah, the first book far exceeds the second. Can't hold it against ya for not wanting to reread though. It's not for everyone. Gonna read the third when it comes out?

That's true, the locked chest did slip my mind. I thought Ambrose was going to kill one of his friends or something after he wrote that fake letter from a woman he got with child. But like I said, it just went about his daily life for like 3 semesters, quickly, and then just went to the present.

I liked it, it's just that I wanted a bit more. It's a trilogy, right, the second one should always end in heartbreak, lol.

I have some questions and these are spoilers for whomever hasn't read the books...

Who do you think Deanna's patron is? Is it Haliax? I think it is.

I think the dude he plays Tak with is part of the amyr. Do you?

Do you think Jax is Haliax? In case you forget, Jax is the dude that steals the moon's name and keeps it locked away in the box.

Also, do you think the locheless box holds the name of the moon? Cause I do.

Yes, I believe that Jax stole the moon and then became Haliax.

I think it holds something absolutely earth-shattering and horrible, something that would let the scrael and mael cross over into the Four Corners, but I hadn't considered the name of the moon.

It's written, but in the editing process. Technically, I think he's been editing it for a couple years now. With all the lore that's jam packed into the story, and all the tiny threads that seem to be interwoven , I understand it's a large task for him.

That's the latest I heard (it was three months ago when he answered questions on a twitch stream).

Edit -

Wow, I missed a lot of connections reading these two books. Just reading the Wiki and seeing things laid out in front of me is really opening my eyes. He might be the nephew of Meluan Lackless because his mom was a noble that ran off with an Edema Ruh and a whole lot of other things.
