Most of the rooms don't serve any purpose, they're clearly just obstacles designed for a person with all of samus' abilities.

They're still super fun, but the world/levels make no fucking sense. Like just look at any random room from Metroid Zero Mission or Super metroid and ask yourself, "what is the purpose of this room?" Most of them don't have one.

They don't have to I guess, but I'm just sayin

I mean it's true to a certain extent for games but even the 3D Metroid's layouts make sense for the most part. Like the pirate bases actually look like bases where they can walk around and do stuff. In 2D metroids their bases are just random rooms with obstacles that would serve no purpose for the pirates / actually hinder them from using the room or getting places since they don't have the same tools samus has.

I think that Metroid is just supposed to be a bunch of naturally-occurring caves inside of Zebes that the pirates are inhabiting.

That, or the crumbling ruins of a civilization.

In any case, they aren't supposed to be rooms serving a functional purpose.

It's one of those things you're just not supposed to question.

Like in Zero mission, did the pirates install all of those obstacles or are those just naturally occurring things? And why are missile packs randomly placed in the walls/ceilings? How did Kraid, Ridley, and Mother brain even get that far underground with how big they are?

How do the pirates even navigate the planet when you NEED things like the morph ball, rockets, and speed boosters.

The 2D ones didn't really care bout making sense. When they switched to 3D though to had to make the levels make more sense. You can't just turn super metroid into 3D.

1) Zero Mission takes place in Chozo ruins. The answer to both parts of that is "Because the Chozo did it". Honestly, that's the answer to ALOT of things in the Metroid universe. The Chozo often had obscure reasons and goals in the things they did.

2) In the case of Mother Brain. there's literally a huge elevator shaft directly behind her. Kraid is huge but also is closer to the surface than the other two. Ridley is much smaller and MUCH more mobile.

3) We've seen instances of pirates bypassing things Samus needs power ups to overcome. For instance, where Samus needs to blast open doors, they just pass right through. For those things, the doors probably are keyed to let them in but Samus needs to get past the door's security features.

As for the blocks that can only be broken by Speed Booster, Screw Attack, etc the pirates probably go around that shit. Most areas can be accessed without them, especially when you remember pirates have their own unique mobility methods like ceiling and wall crawling. We've even seen them crawling in spaces Samus needs to use the morph ball to get into.

Well no shit, most of the games take place in Chozo ruins. They LITERALLY designed shit with Samus in mind even long before she was born. The Chozo were fuckin weird like that.
