Why did they want people pretend Asher Roth was anything like Eminem? It made no sense.

Because Em was hugely popular with the white middle class and also respected by the black community as well, he was hugely popular and extremely mainstream.

MTV wanted both demographics so they tried to push him as hard as they could, then dropped him once they realized outside of I Love College, he was fucking shitty and was nothing like Em

He even has a song saying about how different he was from him.

Nah new rap has some good stuff.
Only good one I know of in the XXL is Playboy Carti, but I only know him from features.
My faves right now are Kendrick, ScHoolboy Q, Run the Jewels, Joey Bada$$, A$AP Mob ( Ferg and Rocky), Vince Staples, Joey Fatts, etc.

Kamaiyah, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, PnB Rock, MadeinTYO, Playboi Carti, Aminé, Kap G, Kyle, Ugly God and XXXTentacion.

I shouldn't say all "newer rap" is bad. Specifically, I haven't heard of any of these people besides Amine who had one song, and XXXTentacion who I don't think I've actually heard rap before. So I guess it's more so that I'm just not listening to these newer people.
