Anyone ever taken a small pet to a veterinarian to have it put down?
That's what I am looking into today. I don't live near the woods so I can't just shoot her and bury her.
I emailed a vet office and nobody has gotten back to me. Next step is calling.

Nobody has had like a kid with a small pet/ rodent?
It wouldn't be a big deal if she just died but she has developed a huge tumor and is still living with it.
She is eating and drinking and moving around but doesn't look so good.

My ex has both of our rats and she asked me to do if one of them got sick. I told her it'd cost far too much to be worth it and she should probably just put them down if it happens.

I'm going to call but can't leave work until 4pm regardless. People's lack of empathy for rats and the potential costs make me hesitant but I'll do it.
She's over 3 years old and that's about how long rats tend to live in captivity.

Would you feed a sick rat with a giant tumor to a pet snake? assuming you want the snake to continue living.

I don't think tumors are toxic. They're bad for the host because their antibodies don't attack them, the snake would just digest it.

Not something I would risk plus feeding a pet another pet is more cruel than other "helpful" suggestions from other posters.
I do have rat poison if worst comes to worst or if the vets laugh at me and hang up or something. I would just prefer a more humane option.

Yeah that was a little too dark, sorry.

Really though the vets wouldn't laugh at you, if anything they'd want your money. I think they'd let you know if it wasn't worth it though.

any reputable vet will be able to perform euthanasia on your rat. even though the bulk of their clientele will be cats and dogs, most vets can still handle smaller animals like ferrets, Guinea pigs and rats.

whatever you do, don't use rat poison. they're not meant to be painless, just effective.

Let it loose and it'll die on its own.

I had guinea pig who was old and dying.

Filled its food tray to the brim of its favorite veggies one day and it died over night.

Threw his entire cage in a garbage bag along with his body and that's that.
