But when you pray and ask for guidance, you just know he's leading you down the right path.

So God gave you the idea to ask a co worker to cover your shift when you needed a day off?

Not necessarily. I was getting shot down by coworkers left and right, and this particular coworker is not my favorite and I was hesitant to ask her. But I did and it worked out

he did come through for both of us in the end

We are getting trolled.

Interesting

So if I'm on here talking about my own experiences with God, I am trolling

..but if I get on here trashing religion and God and talking shit about people who believe, I am golden

Gotcha

Its not an experience if it didnt happen

Your claims are 100% unbelievable. Of course I think you're trolling.

No they are not.

But it's totally believable to be an atheist and to think all of this came into existence at random

Yup. I get it now

how is the meaning of life an essential question? There doesn't have to be a meaning. We could just be a happy accident.

For most people, believing your life has zero meaning and your existence is pointless has pretty bad consequences.

You're experiences aren't with God. They are experiences with the natural world that you are choosing to interpret as God.

And believing that "all of this came into existence at random" is not an inherent part of atheism.

Not entirely. If we presuppose that the universe is infinite. That means all possibilities are infinite. I would say that points the conclusion of the universe just "is." Existence is a result of infinite possibilities.

One may stop you there and ask "if the universe is infinite". And saying that the conclusion just "is" is going to leave many unsatisfied, the clever debater is going to push that point. Saying it just "is" may mean the same to them as "It is the will of Yahweh/Jehovah".

Going further, that could be used as an argument for a deity. If all possibilities exist, a god exists somewhere.

Than that would contradict having an atheist belief.

Given the context of all possibilities and the universe being infinite, that isn't really that absurd. It is just one viewpoint and you have to accept the premise for the conclusion to be true. Not everyone is going to accept the premises.

Yeah but that puts more of a personal philosophy, it doesn't solve the broader issue here.

Asherlee10 posted...
Not entirely. I believe that would be consistent with agnostic atheism.

That's more deism. Saying "god exists" is different than saying "god may or may not exist"

This has nothing to do with knowing a lot.

What you described were natural occurrences. Somebody covering your shift is not necessarily supernatural, but it is necessarily natural. So, at the very least, they are experiences in the natural world. You have chosen to add supernatural agency to these actions, despite the fact that nothing about these occurrences suggests that they are anything other than the natural situations that we're already familiar with.

There is only one answer to these type of questions.

The answer is, We don't know.

However , religious people are quick to accept mobile phones, TVs, internet, medical care or any modern day convenience...even the toilet roll. Yes Science gives us these things.

...and yet some people choose to believe in some dirty old men that crapped in a hole and wrote down their superstitions on paper 2000 years ago instead of wiping their backsides with it. Which is about how useful religious texts are to me.

But thankfully Scientists gave us the toilet roll, so its not even good for that.

I don't think I agree. It does have deistic characteristics, but it does seem to fit into the agnostic atheism more, imo.

The agnostic atheist would say "I don't believe in god but we can't know for sure". The position you gave says god exists somewhere which is philosophically different.

Yes, they are unbelievable because what you claim is not consistent with the known world and how we KNOW it operates.

I am not obligated to tell you how we all came into existence. That doesn't mean that your beliefs are immune from criticism.

Because there are obvious inconsistencies in your displayed belief system.

I could say that each night I levitate in my living room using only my will to do so. No strings, no illusions, I just levitate. That experience I claim to have is not consistent with our known world and it is unbelievable.

What about my experiences are as ridiculous as levitating in a living room? All i said was that I fuckin pray and God answers me. I didn't say I cured the sick or walked on water. Gosh damn

You can criticize my beliefs all you want. But you've gone beyond that and called me a troll. Also, I can critique yours as well. And since you barely say what you believe and fence sit on everything, you can't really talk about my beliefs without offering your own. That's not a discussion

All I know is, as I said, what you've given me as your account of your own experiences. You said that you experienced some natural occurrence, and that some supernatural agent caused said occurrence. I know that your experiences aren't with God, because you've said as much. They are with the world. You attributing it to a supernatural agent is, by your own description, something you did after the fact.

I believe faith has power. I just don't think it's a reliable means to truth.

Religion teaches us a lot about how humans form and maintain societies. And various things (such as prayer, meditation, and positive thinking) can have real benefits in the same way that placebos have benefits. When the brain is in a positive state, it interprets more things as positive, which in turn tends to lead to more positive outcomes (at least from the perspective of the person in question). Furthermore, when the brain is in a positive state, it can lead to physical conditions throughout the body which can allow it to deal with illness more efficiently.
