The stories of ancient tribes do little to convince me of the supernatural. Why can't God make a modern day appearance? Or better yet, why didn't Jesus stay on earth these last two millennia to serve as living witness for all the generations between? If I were a living God that wanted my children to know me, I would live among them rather than remain invisible.

That's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Furthermore, your experience is entirely anecdotal and is therefore poor evidence for the existence of the supernatural or any deity. I'm also willing to bet that those experiences are primarily natural occurrences that are then interpreted to be from the specific god of your choice.

Late to the party, but I'll bite.

TC is technically correct. Science cannot answer those questions, because anyone even remotely familiar with the scientific method knows that's outside of the scope of science. Science only concerns itself with testable (i.e. falsifiable) hypotheses. It also spends more time in the "how" moreso than the "why", given the metaphysical clusterfuck/baggage associated with any sort of "why" question.

Now, that doesn't mean he wasn't reaching for a low hanging fruit for the sake of being facetious. I'm not religious myself, but I always find these topics silly. Science and religion are pretty inextricably linked in history, and while their relationship was contentious at times, it doesn't mean they necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. Modern Catholicism officially accepts natural selection as the mechanism of evolution, they just rationalize it under "mechanism by which God did it", and they even have ways to reconcile their faith in the event aliens are discovered (lol).

Tbh, I had a bullshit 1 credit "meaning of life" filler class back in undergrad. One day we had a guest lecturer, an astronomer from the Vatican. I thought it was totally going to be some sappy faith-based cop out, but it wasn't anything like that. Spoke to estimated age of the universe, Big bang, mechanism by which galaxies and planets formed, etc. Pretty basic astronomy stuff. No mention of God ever. That's when I dropped all pretense. I don't believe, but I'm not going to shit on others for believing. I talk details about scientific theories with religious friends all the time. They're not any less capable at science-heavy topics. Their metaphysical beliefs are separate, and we just happen to have different conclusions.

Oh and TC is also wrong in that "why" questions are purely the domain of religion. It's called philosophy, brah.

Well, you started by saying that God will literally talk to you. Then you moved away from that to say that it's just some form of communication through Jesus, then through whatever was written in the Bible.

I'm not trying to be snarky with you, but this is a bit silly. Silliness to silliness, I just asked God if it would talk to me about something. No reply. What now?

He will guide you and speak with you if you ask.

It's hard to explain. Because I am not a priest or anything. But it's like you can just feel his presence.

It's not like exact words or hearing things. But when you pray and ask for guidance, you just know he's leading you down the right path.

Like recently for me. I needed a day off for something very important that only i could do. I prayed but I felt like my only hope was to call off. I texted one last coworker to help me. She took a while to respond..just as I lost hope though, she hit me back saying that she needed a weekend day off and was praying herself to see how she'd get it. She saw my text 5 minutes later. Needless to say we worked out out and now we both got what we needed.

I know it's small, but I feel that God had his hands in that and I have him to thank
