....the cop's radar gun? In my state and iirc in most states in the u.s. it is within your rights to ask to see or inspect the cop's radar gun. To see the number that he has on his radar gun. I should have asked to see it the last time i got one. But to be honest many times won't the cop be pissed that you're hassling him? Even if it is legal for you to do so?

i always make it a point to keep things as short and quick with cops as possible. by having him hang around, you're creating the opportunity for him to extort you for more money.

I've only gotten 3 speeding tickets and I was lucky they only gave me 5-10 over each time because I was going way over that 2 of the 3 times. No, I never asked to see the radar gun.

You CAN request that in most states...

That will piss off cops though, I would only even consider it if the cop isn't giving you a break at all. IF the cop says you were going one speed but he will only write the ticket for another speed, just shutup and take the ticket.

Been pulled over twice for speeding. First time I got nothing thanks to my dad, second time it was a failure to obey a street sign or whatever it's called. Asking for the gun is cool, but if you're honest and polite that'll usually do the trick.

Whenever I read these tips on what you're legally allowed to do with the police I figure that generally they're not going to help unless pissing off a cop is your idea of making the situation better. Generally speaking cops have gone easy on me, so I'm not going to rock the boat by listing out my rights, XSquader style.

I remember being pulled over for the first time for supposedly doing 23 in a 20 MPH school zone. Didn't occur to me to ask to see their speed gun, but Jesus. How much of a jackass do you have to be to pull me over for something as petty as 3 measly miles.

Needless to say, all charges were dropped if I agreed to take a Defensive Driving course.

Ok so you can look at the radar to do what exactly? I doubt most people have any idea how to test its calibration or get anything useful out of looking at it plus the cop is much less likely to let you off the hook after basically acusing him of being a lier.

I've had several speeding tickets. All in my younger days. I deserved all but the last one. I wasn't speeding. Cop said I was doing 10 over, but I was right at the speed limit. I asked for proof and he said no. Went to court and judge tossed it out when my lawyer brought it up.
