Yes and no. It's mostly gonna be microtransaction shit made by them and a few qualified modders. Random Modder #2 isn't gonna qualify to be in the club.

i think the problem will be that, like the App store, and even Steam, big, time consuming mods will not be a viable way of making money

why make a big, grand, mod that will require tons of debuggin and testing and revisions when you can make a shiny sword and sell that right away.

gone will be the likes of Skywind and there will be a swarm of horse-armor-like DLC flooding this "club"

I want downloadable tits for my horse that I can squeeze while I ride her. I'd pay $2.95 USD for that.

I don't know why any of you guys think that you shouldn't have to pay for mods

You're not entitled to other people's work

That wasn't why people were pissed off about paid mods. Or at least not why modders themselves were pissed about. It's because Valve and Bethesda acted like they were entitled to profit from other people's work.

Honestly, people put dozens of hours of their life and time into making these. It reminds me of Forza Horizon, I made car designs, mainly of sports teams and logos, it takes me 5 to 8 hours per design and I put them on the marketplace and make nothing off of them except small amounts of in-game currency. One of my better designs had 400+ downloads and no one considers the time put into making them. I eventually stopped as I never got as much as a thank you from anyone that DLed my designs for free. It's all taken for granted these days.

The modders are using their platform, are they not?

I thought the big issue with paid mod last time was people stealing other people mods to put up on the marketplace and people putting low quality mods up for money.

you shouldnt go into that kind of stuff expecting to get thanks or anything in return for that matter. its a good way to get discouraged, burned out, and ultimately lose all motivation.

Perhaps they should put a bigger emphasis on donations instead. But then again it's their game and their platform through which mods need to be approved.

If someone doesn't want to use the service or pay for the mods then they can just do it the old fashion way by using that nexus site. But of course through that way it won't be guaranteed to work because often you have to do the tweaking here and there in a file or two to actually see the effects of the mod.

Just downloaded about 200 mods in addition to what I already had, and got a bunch of SSE mods ready. Not getting caught with mods being taken off the Nexus again.

I actually didn't mind the paid mods system they set up last time. This time seems way worse. Credits and a very microtransactiony vibe. Ew.

Here's something to calm yourself from the website:

Is Creation Club paid mods?

No. Mods will remain a free and open system where anyone can create and share what they’d like. Also, we won’t allow any existing mods to be retrofitted into Creation Club, it must all be original content. Most of the Creation Club content is created internally, some with external partners who have worked on our games, and some by external Creators. All the content is approved, curated, and taken through the full internal dev cycle; including localization, polishing, and testing. This also guarantees that all content works together. We’ve looked at many ways to do “paid mods”, and the problems outweigh the benefits. We’ve encountered many of those issues before. But, there’s a constant demand from our fans to add more official high quality content to our games, and while we are able to create a lot of it, we think many in our community have the talent to work directly with us and create some amazing new things.

Basically you make some sort of submission and maybe some early models or w/e, and after approval you begin making new stuff with the part of the dev team.

Edit: Honestly, I doubt more than a handful of paid mods will take off. Sounds like there's way more red tape now. With free mods you can upload whatever, whenever, but here you have to go through an approval process and probably have to go through Playstation/Microsoft every time you want to make an update.

You can tell who didn't actually pay attention to the announcement by who is pissy that they're making paid mods a thing again when they're actually contracting out DLC production.

Bingo. It even literally says that most of the content will be made internally by Bethesda.
