It has failed the American public in 40% of general elections since 2000. It clearly does not work.

In before the Trumpettes parrot "California shouldn't decide who becomes president!"

No, California should have a massive role. It has the most citizens and a largest economy. America would collapse if California vanished.

America didn't want either of those fucking clowns, we were forced into choosing one or the other. And don't even try to pretend that a third option was viable, because we all know that's bullshit.

Hillary and the Democratic party deserve all the blame in the world for disregarding the rules under which she was playing and prioritizing the popular vote.

Also, the rules are bad and should be changed going forward, as I believe that would produce results that better reflect the will of the people.

The word you're looking for, guys, is plurality. A majority entails more than 50%, which Hillary did not get.

Also, if I may: a shoutout to parliamentary systems without ranked voting, runoffs, or proportional representation. In the UK, a majority of seats will be held by parties that reached 45% of the vote.

The math on this doesn't check out; even if every voter in the 9 largest states voted the same way, you wouldn't get a majority of the popular vote (based on 2016 totals). And that entails six red states and three blue ones.

Alternatively, you would need the votes of every man, woman, and child in the metropolitan areas of NYC, LA, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and DC.
