At some level I agree, but that would have had them get off easy compared to Reconstruction. Hell, it would have likely pissed them off a lot and led to a future insurrection and rebellion.

Reconstruction was better than mass execution. More than anything, the redeemers needed to have been squashed. And they weren't.

The south wouldn't have surrendered then, and hundreds of thousands more northerners would have died.

What a dumb topic.

I agree but more realistically, Jefferson Davis should have been put to death along with his high command.
Then land should have been taken from slave owners and given to ex-slaves. Soldiers should have been stationed to squelch shit like the Klan. And state/city leadership should have been done through federal appointments for a few decades.

Also, we should have demanded a real* unconditional surrender from Japan and hung their Emperor.

So fascism should have been implemented.

It was anyway, just for black people. I can't get on board with mass executions of Confederate Soldiers, but a federal military presence allowed a brief period with a modicum of racial equality in the south, and when the feds pulled out, lost causers went straight to work reclaiming power through a regime of violence.

The southern lifestyle at the time was ended and the land burned to ash.

Worse than death.

Also not everyone who fought for the south did it for political reasons anyway.

If you think taking property acquired through slavery to pay back slaves in fascism, yes.
If you think the death penalty for treason, for the highest ranking traitors is fascism, yes.
If you think a 'policing' presence to stop mob rule from murdering scores of former slavery victims is fascism, yes.

Oh I'm guessing you're referring to federally appointed leaderships roles.
Yeah I don't care. Martial law in a post-war region during reconstruction is hardly a moral tragedy. Give me a fucking break.

Damn this was a better response.
