Why's this story suddenly gaining so much traction? Seems like there'd be a point to it if the narrative surrounding it involved condemning America enslaving its prisoners, but it only seems to be about Hillary using them. If anything, wouldn't this issue be similar to Trump not paying taxes for 10 years cause he's smart? Seems as if Hillary is smart too.

If they were then that criticism would actually be explicit and not merely implicit. The US has utilized slave prison labor for decades yet it only picks up traction as an issue cause of Hillary? Come on now, don't be naive. It's not like the slave labor just propped up out of nowhere.

It's implicit in this particular scenario. The vast majority of people I have seen take particular umbrage with this are left leaning people who have regularly and explicitly criticised the prison system as a whole in the US.
