The point is, exclusives are system sellers. Xbox doesn't have many exclusives, so they're literally dying to play any exclusive.

PS4 has exclusives out the ass, so each potential exclusive might not sell the best, but they contribute to Sony's dominate sales.

The only reason people brought up power as much as they did around launch and in the early years is because the PS4 was notably more powerful and cost $100 less thanks to M$ trying to force Kinect bundles and even after they backpedaled on that, they were still charging the same price for a notably weaker console with no reason for it to be that expensive.
So the for it to be weaker, cost more, and for the exclusives to not be as good, obviously all of those things are going to get brought up. And now the exclusives are actually non existent for the Xbox One, which is good for consumers since they can play on a superior platform, but bad for giving any reason to play on the Xbox platform other than you being a primarily online gamer and that being what your friends have.

It's never just about a single thing. Exclusives could most certainly be one of many factors.

I'd argue that the PS3 managed to scrape up a comeback against the 360 thanks to its exclusives. So it seems silly to argue that they aren't important. If one person bought a PS4 for Bloodborne and his friend buys one to play with him that exclusive did its job.

Yeah because they mostly sucked until the last year or so. Exclusives are a factor but that doesn't mean they're the only one. Now it's a major reason to choose the PS4 over Xbox. For the first year or two of the gen that wasn't the case (PS4 had other reasons back then) but now it is.

Sure. But games like Uncharted 2, God of War 3, The Last of Us and Heavy Rain most certainly made an impact. Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn are most certainly helping PS4 sales too. Who knows how much better Xbox One could be doing if they released a killer new app instead of Gears of War 4 which just felt like the same game.

It's entirely possible Scorpio will somehow be this hail mary because it has better graphics. But I'd argue that power is way less important than killer apps and exclusives. So I think they'll need a lot more than that.

This is entirely thanks to the audience Microsoft has built up over the years. These games are in that awkward place of not quite suiting the people who currently own Xbox's but not big enough to convince people to jump into buying a new Xbox to play them. People aren't buying an Xbox One to play linear games like Quantum Break or Rise of the Tomb Raider. Ironically these are the kinds of games people have bought PS4's for.

I think Microsoft themselves know this and they'll double down on games that are focused on online.
