Wait they couldn't direct attack life points? So if you were skilled enough to wipe out their forces and still had attacks left you couldn't do shit with it?

When Joey dueled Mai Valentine. She only used Harpie Lady (and upgraded it into Harpie Lady Sisters, but that apparently counted as the same monster) and Yugi said as much to Joey and that he would win as soon as it was destroyed, which he did.

I don't remember the LP count at the time, but Yugi flat-out said that since she only had one monster, Joey would win if he destroyed it.

Actually, I think Duelist Kingdom only allowed one attack per turn, but allowed direct attacks if the opponent didn't play a monster. If no direct attacks were allowed at all, then why did duelists even bother playing monsters in defense mode? It would be wasting resources for no reason at all.

This too. The reason Yugi said that Joey won if he destroyed Mai's only monster is because it meant she couldn't play any more monsters and he would just attack directly for the win.

That's the conclusion I came to too, it's the only way that makes sense.

- Only one monster could attack per turn (which further reinforced the direct attacks as players prevented them).
- Although it is implied that there are no direct attacks, direct attacks never occur because players Summon monsters in order to protect their Life Points (as seen in the very first episode when Yugi "must" Summon Exodia or all 3 of Kaiba's "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" will attack and finish off Yugi's Life Points).

When you change the battle position of a Rock type monster you control, you get to destroy a spell/trap card on your opponents field.
