I usually got the first game of the pair (Red, Gold, Ruby, etc.) I usually got the second game of the pair (Blue, Silver, Sapphire, etc.) I was split about evenly between the two, not favoring one side over the other I usually got both games in the pair, rendering the decision pointless I usually just waited for the 'upgraded' version (Yellow, Silver, Emerald, etc.) View Results The different paired titles in the main series: Red and Blue Gold and Silver Ruby and Sapphire Fire Red and Leaf Green Diamond and Pearl Heart Gold and Soul Silver Black and White Black 2 and White 2 X and Y Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Sun and Moon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (upcoming) Besides 5th gen (went with Black and its sequel) and 7th gen (went with Sun and will buy Ultra Sun later this year) I always ended up getting the second game in the pair right on release. I usually picked based on which game had the better version exclusives, but that almost always led me to the second title. I got both Ruby and Sapphire. I didn't get Emerald until after Gen IV was out. I got Diamond. And I really haven't played Pokémon since.
