i've noticed this looking at recent both written literature and any other media that tells stories where there arent any clear cut good and evil.

i think the trend only started in early to mid 19th century, especially post world wars like ernest hemmingway stuff that portrays war not as this glorious victory to vanquish the enemies, but only human struggle for survival sometimes just tragedy fueled by greed and ambition and stuff. the same goes beyond wars, and people start portraying conflicts as 2 groups with a different visions trying to do what they want. it is no longer a big great curtain between good and evil, but a kaleidoscope that shows shards of different lights and individual mixed up with different groups that have no clear division between good and evil.

what do you think caused this? do you think the both world war are just so massive and deadly that everyone realize that wars sucks? is it because the speed of information during the wars in the 19th century that people aren't easily fooled with propaganda?

most classical literature (of course, i am basically not qualified to say about this topic and every thing i said so far is just my assumptious views) have this story about conflict with good and evil, where both sides have this nice frames that make it obvious who the readers should root for etc.
