For example, you're drawing a sprite of a character. I know about idle sheets, movement sheets, etc you can make in gimp or photoshop. But my question is if you wanted to make a sprite gun, or sprite vehicle, or sprite... tree? Do you need to actually render objects physically in Maya or 3DS max or can you just use collider boxes and stuff, and just draw all your stuff in an image editing software?

This is a total shot in the dark, in case other game devs are on CE at 1AM.
