Teen Accidentally Kills 19-Year-Old Girlfriend With Gun He Received As Graduation Gift

A Tennessee teen accidentally killed his girlfriend with a gun he’d just received as a graduation gift, according to reports.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Brennan Fields, 18, was playing with the gun when it accidentally went off and struck his 19-year-old girlfriend, Lucinda Luna, in the stomach on Thursday night.

Fields was seated in a chair and Luna was lying on a couch across from him when the gun went off, according to WFTV.

Luna was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Kara Stubblefield, a childhood friend of Luna, said Fields was an experienced gun owner who regularly went to a shooting range.

The gun was a gift to Fields from Luna’s father, according to reports.

If you're experienced, why was the gun loaded? You're obviously not cleaning the gun, as you wouldn't have a bullet in the chamber otherwise. Guns shouldn't be loaded unless you're ready to fire them. I feel bad for the girl, who died because the guy wasn't handling his gun properly.

I don't buy this, I know teenagers are dumb but the dudes father should've hammered into his brain by this point that you're never supposed to point a gun in the direction of another person and always treat them as if they're loaded even when you know damn well they aren't.

Not expected to face charges? Are you fucking kidding me?

This is NOT a mere accident, and it is not acceptable.

If you go outside hunting with someone and accidentally shoot someone, that's one thing.

But inside your home, you should not be fucking about with a loaded gun. There's just no excuse for it.

The premeditation is choosing to play with a gun. If you choose to do something idiotic and it results in death, you're responsible for that death

Still not murder, he didn't intend to shoot her. Murder requires intent, by legal definition this is involuntary manslaughter. Like a drunk driver killing somebody, they didn't mean to kill anyone.

People are required to take driving lessons and pass a written and driving exam to get their license to drive.

Why isn't there anything like that for guns? Like gun safety and handling a gun lesson. And then have them take a written exam and a physical gun handling and safety exam before they can use a gun.

There is if you want to conceal/open carry in certain states.

Like Tennessee.

To buy a handgun you have to get a background check. Not for shotguns and rifles.

Private sale or FFL as well?

It's not illegal to privately sell a firearm but if said person buying it is not legally allowed to own it and are caught it's a felony on them.

And if the law it wrong, it should be changed.

Slavery used to be legal, while gay marriage used to be illegal. Weed is still illegal in some backwards states. The law isn't always right.
