It's one of my all time favorite novels. Despite all of the horrible shit the protagonist has to contend with (the death of her parents, an emotionally and physically abusive aunt, etc.) she never loses her dignity. She acknowledges that she is neither beautiful or rich, but she doesn't allow that to prevent her from living a good life. What do you guys think of the book? --- Woo! ... Copied to Clipboard!

Doesn't seem like my kind of story It's a very introspective novel about an individual who struggles to find her place in a world that hasn't been very kind to her. I love it. She's a fictional character, I know, but I think she's a good role model. --- Woo! ... Copied to Clipboard!

I liked Crash Course's analysis of it on YouTube, the symbolism is interesting, especially with crazy attic lady.

It's much more palatable because of the lack of idiosyncrasies. Still, it's nice revisiting older books sometimes. Awakened_Link posted... I admittedly haven't read Jane Eyre, but I feel it probably doesn't get the respect it deserves because people see it as a girly-girl kind of book.

It's marketed as a "romance" novel when it is not really one at all. Romance is a component, yes, but I would argue that it's much more about self-discovery and independence. --- Woo! ...
