In this day and age, I don't think so. I think it would have been abolished by now regardless

Probably would have just killed them all later during the industrial revolution when mechanized farming took off. Before a genuine abolitionist movement could have took off.

May have staved off mechanization for a time, but I don't see a reality where mechanization wouldn't have eventually made it obsolete. At that point, you'd have alternate-reality version of Jim Crow to replace the social controls provided by slavery, so history could have followed a similar path.

Doubt it. It would have hung on for a bit more. But eventually it would be abolished. It was already being abolished anyway - it was just a case of some states not doing it yet.

er, not wanting to do it yet. I mean the states would have kept slavery until the modern day if possible but even if they won, the other states would have strong armed them eventually through votes.

Possibly. Maybe not field slaves, but house slaves I could definitely still see as a thing. Unpaid labor for cooking, cleaning, yard work, daycare, and all that other stuff you usually pay people to do when you can afford it.

Unpaid labor for cooking, cleaning, yard work, daycare, and all that other stuff you usually pay people to do when you can afford it. Why? It would make sense completely. Oh yea that's a good one But still, would any country in today's world do business with a country that had slaves? No, I meant I forgot about house slaves entirely and completely omitted them from my thought process in my first post. No, it would have effectively ended by 1900 purely due to economics.
Even if slavery were legal today, it'd still be much cheaper to just hire an illegal immigrant rather than to purchase a worker and provide them with food, housing, and medical care. --- - The Admiral ... Copied to Clipboard!
