Is it worth $8?

I like Warhammer, and I like X-Com, but boy do the graphics look rough.

Graphics are a bit on the rough side, but the whole setting is supposed to be rundown so I don't find it that bad. I enjoyed it when I wasn't getting screwed by RNG, but it's meter-based movement rather than grid based, much like warhammer. This does lead to some annoying moments though, where you don't mean to move into an enemy's attack range but you do and it screws your whole game. It is fun though, I enjoy the heavy customization you can do.

Also if you get it I might start playing again and we can have epic rat battles

It's not really like XCOM. Yes, it's a turn-based strategy, but the feel of it is very different, and that's what put me off it when I tried it during a Steam free weekend. I went into it looking for a fantasy XCOM, didn't find it, and left unhappy.

Out of interest, where's doing it for $8? I might give it another whirl at that price if it's somewhere I can use.

Oh yeah! Didn't you do a playthrough topic? I think I remember enjoying reading it.

Having watched some more gameplay since I posted this, it looks way more Valkyria Chronicles than X-Com now.

And it's actually $16 on Xbox Live, but because I game share with Home Xbox, my shared friend and I would be going in on it half-and-half and we'd both get it.

I did, I ragequit because of the aforementioned "moving into enemy range" incident. The reason it's so significant is that it is like xcom in that your party can take injuries that can permanently cripple or even kill them. I don't know how much xcom this next part is, but that particularly sucks because you have 10 dudes in your entire warband, and when one goes down you either start a new member from scratch, or spend a ton of gold to basically buy a higher leveled guy, with more levels costing more gold. It really feels like it sets you back because the enemies you face are gauged in strength by your warband's overall strength, so having say, 9 level 7 guys and one level 0 guy is going to make you not only basically outnumbered, but also hell to level up the new guy since the opposing enemies won't decrease in strength that much.

Huh... it looks like some sort of Mordheim game has just been released for Android. F2P with IAPs (and GW games' IAPs tend to be plentiful and hugely overpriced), but could be worth a look.
