We're just over a week away from E3, and video game companies everywhere are leaking like ships in a hurricane. Today's rumour is an apparent prequel to Life is Strange, made by a new developer and scheduled to be revealed within the next couple of weeks.

Our story starts with this press release, which revealed yesterday that a little-known Denver, CO-based developer called Idol Minds has changed its name to Deck Nine Games. In that press release, the folks at Deck Nine wrote:

Deck Nine have signed a partnership deal with a leading AAA video game publisher and are deep in development on their first title, a brand new addition to a critically acclaimed franchise. More info will be revealed about this narrative adventure game at E3 in June.

There aren't a lot of AAA-published narrative adventure games, so Life is Strange, published by Square Enix, already seems like the obvious fit. And in the following hours, internet sleuths discovered that Deck Nine's new website contained a series of relevant images:

The article contains a bunch of pictures that look like Chloe.

So this would mean there's both a prequel by Deck Nine and a sequel by Dontnod coming out. Interesting.

I'm guessing the prequel will be about Chloe and Rachel looking at those pictures. Not sure where that story could really go though. Maybe one of them gets powers and can change their destiny?

I think the DontNod sequel is gonna be new characters. Well that's what they said back around the season 1 days anyway. They might have changed their mind since then.

Hm... now when I think back about it, it would be interesting to see if Rachel did have powers or not and how her relationship started with Chloe. I mean at this point they can make anything up because they never actually showed her in person in LiS.

I can see it playing out like... Rachel has these powers, and at the end of the game she chooses to sacrifice herself to save another person or town.

I think there were some hints towards something weird going on with her in the game.

I think the payoff was just that she was that deer spirit but that could lead to some other stuff I suppose

A prequel focusing on other shit in Arcadia Bay might be interesting

And a sequel would be hard to do with the same characters cuz yknow.


I want something that explains what the fuck is up with the Prescotts. Waited 5 episodes for that shoe to drop, but it never did.

I could see the game ending with Rachel passing her powers onto Max thinking about it. There were a lot of hints in the game that they were connected and similar.

Sure. I mean the mystery of Rachel outside of this is pretty resolved so I'm not sure where else it can really go.

It could explain why Max and Rachel got their powers but still not the source I suppose. Perhaps this is where it links to 2.

Crazy how we went from not knowing if there would even be another entry to potentially two titles coming out in (presumably) quick succession.

I'm all for more but I don't know how I feel about a studio that isn't Dontnod handling it. Could end up with some jarring disconnects quality wise.

Its kind of funny to hear that because Dontnod made that terrible game, Remember Me. Its impressive how they managed to improve their reputation so much.

Why do that if Max is "supposed" to let Chloe die anyway? This is why a sequel with the same people is needed.

I actually loved Remember Me. The ending was a mess (ha, sounds familar) but otherwise I thought it was pretty great!

The only thing that sucked about that game was the combat system, it tried to be a Batman Arkham game and it just ended up failing. The best part about the game was easily the memory remixing. Too bad it only happened like 3-4 times in the whole game though? Wasted potential.
