There are guides online for which episodes to skip, and further in you can look into One Pace for a fan project that edits the meaningless padding/filler out of the later episodes. --- "A man chooses. Not really a reverse, but by that I mean start with Alabasta or Enies Lobby and move forward, then go back to reread the older arcs later. Alabasta is actually probably a better launching point. I read straight from the beginning when I was pretty young, but many things about early One Piece turn people off, which is happened to me. Luckily I got back in by skipping to Alabasta and I went back to the few arcs I skipped out on sometime later. Basically a lot of new fans have a hard time picking it up from the beginning.
