What about the nerd mind makes it enjoyable to reference their favorite movies/comics/games and current events so often?

Is it because nerds tend to live inside their heads and so any sort of shared experience is especially novel to them?

(note that I am not entirely speaking as an outsider to it)

I imagine it's the same reason most people do.

References are typically always better than pointers.

Nope.

I think you should reconsider. Take notice of how much less often you see quippy references outside of nerddom.

Ok, I thought about it. It's pretty common.

probably coz they enjoy it by themselves, in their own head. so it's good to shout out and get other people interested in niche shows, comics, anime, etc

plus someone might pick up and be into the reference, which then is a new friend for that person

Maybe you don't recognize normies references because they're normal, but they're still there. You just let them pass without noticing them.

Nerdy shit used to be ostracizing, but now it's become much more commonplace; even so, it's still surprising to hear someone mention nerdy shit casually without making fun of it.

There are tons of pop references in mainstream culture. I mean think about it, stuff like family guy and south park are nothing but references.
