For me it was Mike Rowe. His S.W.E.A.T. pledge (skill and work ethic aren't taboo) really resonated with me, a man from a working class family in a world where "manual labour" has swiftly become a dirty a saying; a dirty job. But the real dirty jobs, as Mike Rowe taught me, are those ones filled with tonnes of little bureaucrats. They involve white-collar chumps, who are nothing more than the mortar between the bricks of government and corporation, clocking in day-after-day to their lives and bringing with them no sense of purpose, desperate for the confines of home, miserable on the grey-blue bus home, or sitting in traffic dying in the smog of their Japanese-import car. And we leave our children in the hands of babysitters --- strangers, who could very well have sinister motives --- and sit in amazement as we wonder the millennials are growing up an increasingly fractured generation that does not know what it means to work, that are strangers to even themselves, that cannot look a man in the eye and say "I have my lot in life, and proud of it", or "There must be a better way; I will work for one." It is for this reason that I have decided that, should Mike and I ever cross ways in the pub, I will be shouting the bloke a pint on my hard-earned paycheque, and we'll laugh and nod because we both know what it means to live.
