I have been heavily tattooed since 19. I have a sleeve, a foot tat, and my entire chest done that barely comes onto the front of my neck. It's not a real neck tattoo as a well fitted crew neck shirt or even a button up will cover it but it's right on the edge of my neck.

I've never had a problem getting hired anywhere due to tattoos because I simply keep them covered. Hell at one of my jobs where I wore a suit and showed up in uniform none of my coworkers ever even knew I had a tattoo when I worked there over a year.

I don't understand why people don't understand that tattoos are seen as unprofessional and not to flaunt them, reveal them, or let them be seen during hours or even at interviews. How stupid must you be?

I mean most people with tattoos do not have hand, neck, or face tattoos so how are people so dumb to show up to interviews or in the office showing tattoos? Anything not on those extremely visible areas are easily covered by pants and long sleeve shirt....

Face, hands, and neck are the only "everlasting jobstoppers". It makes me laugh to hear stories of people flaunting their ink at interviews or in the workplace and wondering why they can't get a job or why their supervisor asked them to cover up. Baffles my mind.

Just thought about this as I'm getting another tattoo next week on my torso and thought about adding a small one on the inner wrist as well but I'm thinking if it will be visible in some of my tighter shirts. My current sleeve leaves about 3-4 inches of blank space on the arm between the wrist so even if my shirt rides up you can't see it. Did that intentionally when I decided to go below the elbow.

Because tattoos are an expression and freedom of choice and it's wrong that society dictates that it is unprofessional because of ignorant people.

Is it true? Yes, but I don't look down on someone for having visible tattoos because it's their choice.

I also have no issues with them bitching about issues of employment because tattoos being unprofessional is a stupid social construct to begin with.

I'm heavily tattooed. I feel that way as well.

But I also live in the real world where grown adults know that tattoos represent an unprofessional image and that people will judge me for it. So I cover them up and wear short sleeves and stuff on my free time.

Why is this so hard for other people to grasp? I see the world for how it is not how I want it to be.

I felt the same way about weed growing up that I should be free to smoke it but I still hid my shit if I saw a cop showing up.

Because not everyone is so willing to conform to society.

Not everybody thinks like you and just because your way of thinking is what's considered "correct" in the eyes of society, it doesn't make it the righteous path. Especially through the eyes of somebody else.

I do see where you're coming from, but I also see where heavily tattooed people are coming from too.

I am heavily tattooed. I'm just not delusional and naïve about it.
