that's what I feared, and that's why I haven't bought it yet. at the time it was one of my all-time favs but I feel like in terms of ARPGs I've been spoiled with fluid mechanics in this day and age and it might not hold up.

on the other hand.. the game has Albel.. so I still might have to buy it.

Loading it up, sitting through an hour of Sophia being a manipulative wannabe wife, and finally getting to fight... Eh. I also wondered if nostalgia got me again, but the combat i opening up a fair bit as it goes along.

I bought it because I remember Albel and Maria were fun af, so I think it'll be more engaging as soon as I pick up Albel - IIRC Maria doesn't get as monstrous until endgame.

nostalgia is one hell of a drug
though i guess that now that this game isn't ps2-exclusive for some people it suddenly loses its charm

I'm still enjoying it; I put it at the level of Symphoia in terms of enjoyment combat-wise which is pretty good.

My favorite battle system between the two series is Xillia, but Xillia had an atrocious line-up of characters and a mediocre story, even for Tales, so that game is pretty low on my list.

alvin's constant betrayal thing was dumb but the characters were fun enough in skits

fine. it has Gaius. auto-pass, even if he's only playable in 2.

he was cooler in the 1st game anyway.

She's a monster the second you get her. Scatter shot is devastating, and you should be able to get a slightly better weapon than her crappy starting one through IC.

Maria was my favorite; I had Fayt mackin' on her instead of Sophia since Sophia was just annoying.

they werent originally in the game. :o they got added in the director's cut that got released in the west. I guess they must have been really popular NPCs in the original release.

But I still think it was weird to make them mandatory when they were just carbon copies of characters you already had

Mirage wasn't such a dumb addition, even if shew as a copy... but Audrey was so incredibly dumb and pointless to add... he wasn't even in the story until right before he joined and then he did nothing. Either way, I'd drop both in a heartbeat if it meant I could keep Peppita and Roger since I had to drop them for Nel and Albel.

That makes me very disinclined to play those then since XIlia's characters were garbage and its story was rather mediocre even by Tales standards. Easily the most fun battle system, though.

It's fun af. I love Canceling, lol. I feel like that was smoother than the combos in the Tales games I've played. And I always thought it was cool how the AI attempts to mimic how you play a character.


I really hate the voice acting in this game, though.

Then I made a weapon (or upgraded, whichever) with...Orichalcum? The one that gives +500 atk. And holy shit did it break the game lol

Never did get much further after getting into the 4D world. Got stuck in the dungeon, that I think is right before you're able to start actually exploring.

In the main game, yeah. You can even make them disc one if you do it right.

Post game you'll reset a million times trying to get a half refined pair of boots of prowess. I never got past 6 and that took about 6000 attempts between all the cycles and resets.

Xillia is not meh at all, its the best since Vesperia and until Berseria. I'd say it's equal with Bersy, even.

Berseria is amazing though yeah so definitely play it, whoever hasn't already.
