the auto claims department has some in house spanish teams and teams for chinese and korean but that's about it

not in my department. my department is small and they actually took away the bilingual pay from the reps we have and designated that they can't handle spanish claims simply because they speak spanish and we have to use an interpreter.

yeah they'd rather pay an team of extra people to translate ALL spanish calls that are outside the auto department than pay individuals to specialize in spanish claims in each department

We should just pick a language at random and start teaching kids in schools that language in addition to their native tongue all around the world. That way in a couple generations everyone will be able to at least communicate with each other.

Ahh.. I wonder if they'd compensate you for taking Spanish classes on your free time for work?
If it makes you feel any better, despite working in a rather diverse area, English is still my only language.. though I remember a little Spanish. Essentially, I'm worse off than Peggy Hill, when it comes to my Spanish; if we're being blunt. >__<
But my wife speaks English, Korean and Spanish.. So, our kids might end up being okay, in the linguistic department. :x

As of now they don't pay for anyone to learn a foreign language but they're starting to introduce community college courses they'll specifically pay for outside of tuition reimbursement that they are teaching on my work campus so I'm wondering if they'll ever add foreign language to that program.

That sounds promising at least heh. Maybe if they see there's employee interest in learning, the potential cuts in long term expenses on outside translators will entice them to go for it.
Also, does your boyfriend speak Spanish? I would imagine that would help speed up the learning curve of your conversational skills, having a free tutor hah. >__>b

yes but he always makes fun of my accent when i try to speak spanish so it makes me discouraged. he does it in a cutesy way but it makes me self conscious lol
