As long as Alm or Celica don't die, I don't have to worry about restarting the whole battle because one of my units got killed. Of course, I still have to be careful, because it can only be used a limited number of times per battle.

The game is so easy that the turnwheels only use for me is when I get a bad stat up, which.... Happens a lot.

It actually changes the RNG and gives you a different level-up? Sweet.

No it does not. You have to leave that character out of the battle and wait till the next one.

Oh okay. So it's basically...

bad level up > rewind with turnwheel > get kill with someone else > wait until next battle to level up first character > different (hopefully better) level up

...right?

Even if it doesn't on it's own, if this game is like Fire Emblems past, you can manipulate the stat gains to an extent by performing a different action to alter the order of the internal number rolls.

The way, as I understand it, Fire Emblem games work for determining hit chance, crit, and stat gains is, at the start of battle, there is a set sequence of invisible numbers laid out and whether or not you hit, miss, crit, get a gain on each stat, etc. is based on whether or not the number in the sequence at the time that action is performed falls within the percentage chance.

So, suppose the number sequence looks like this:

5
96
17
24
81
69
34
55
62
78
43

And you have, say, Hector attack an enemy with a 75% chance to hit and a 30% chance to crit. He would hit, because his chance is higher than 5, but he wouldn't crit because his chance is lower than 96.

And let's say he levels up. He would get a point gain in HP and Strength, because his chance at those stat gains are higher than 17 and 24 respectively, but he wouldn't get gains in Skill and Speed because his chance at a gain is lower than 81 and 69 respectively.

If You were to change the order of actions, you could manipulate the stat gains accordingly.

That was my understanding, anyway

that's the way it worked in Genealogy of the Holy War

in, for instance, Radiant Dawn (for the wii), the numbers were randomly generated each time

Oh yeah, I forgot about this part. So I guess then it would go...

bad level up > rewind with turnwheel > do some other move > do original move again > different (hopefully better) level up

Yes. It is like fates. I like the turnwheel a lot, it balances classic and casual, making casual for basically only baby's. It can't be abused too much which is good, and helps with long dungeons especially.

It doesn't. I tried 3 times to change it in a battle, and never tried again.

Fate's and Echo's level ups are determined the moment you're in the map.
