Given that the whole thing is based on a Facebook post, it's very possibly a joke which CBS didn't pick up on since it doesn't run that much fact-checking >_> Keep in mind that during the height of the whole "fake news!" outrage by conventional media, they themselves were caught running several fake news stories including passing along a story about a kid with cancer being visited by Santa or something.

Okay.

I know that you're bad when it comes to critical thought, but that literally means nothing because, if you look, they *all* cite the same primary source -- a Facebook post -- while conducting no additional research (and, in some cases, they're pretty blatant about *only* consulting the Facebook post since they keep referencing back to it, meaning that they never even called the police department for comment). And, because you probably don't remember the incident, a similar thing happened with that cancer patient story where multiple mainstream news outlets ran the story without fact-checking the primary source only to later realize that the details couldn't be verified.

Now, if you actually wanted to prove his existence, you would have done the research I did: Look into stories NOT related to this one, try to track down an address, etc. The best proof for his existence comes in two forms. First, an alleged Facebook photo from 2015:
https://www.facebook.com/bangormainepolice/photos/a.10150153501616079.331327.227432866078/10153417648031079/?type=1&theater

And second is the copy of an affidavit on a sketchy-looking site.

Granted, it's not a strong proof -- I couldn't find an address (although a "Richard" Polk lives in Old Town, which is 20 minutes from Bangor and, depending on the entry, his age is listed as either 65+ or 32) -- but it'd be pretty involved if it was just a joke.

This honestly sounds like something that would happen in Bangor although being based on a Facebook post does make it seem unlikely. Also a heads up but the abbreviation for Maine is ME not MN.
