... it seems that when my mom was pregnant they had only one car, and my dad would use the car to drive to work and he would let my pregnant mom ride the bus and subway to her work, and never offered to let her take the car.

Also one time when my mom was pregnant she had a sudden craving for beer and she begged my dad for a beer. Instead of going to the convenience store to buy her a beer, my dad took my mom in the car and drove her to a bar that was frequented by outlaw bikers and smelled like a million cigarettes.

My mom is still mad about this today, 34 years later.

Seriously, I know that's bad, but talk about holding a grudge...

Supposed to be based on this guy:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Themistocles

There are people in my family with names like Socrate, Aristotele and Serse (italian for Xerxes)

It's just an old habit because the branch of my family is anarchist and they don't want to give their kids biblical names like Mark or John or whatever

Just be grateful she didn't kill your father once she was able to freely move about. Seriously, dick move on his part.

Does your dad show any appreciation to your mother? I'm entertaining the possibility that she brings that up as the shining example of how your dad treats her as opposed to her having a grudge.

He's basically asking her permission to go to the bathroom. I never saw him talk back to her once

It's that bad, uh.

Knowing my dad though I feel this was more stupidity than anything else.

It's like that time I was playing a hockey game and we asked him to tape the game. Well, he wanted to be smart and only film during the play and stop the tape during the time-outs and whistles. Well, turns out he did the other way around - he only filmed during the time-outs and stopped filming as the play was going on.

It's like you can never count on him for anything.

One time as a kid I was playing street hockey with my friends and one guy got injured so we rang at my parents door to get a bandaid. My dad answered and saw the guy with the bleeding finger and he asked "are your parents home?" like, no you're not coming in. Then my mom came out and gave him a bandaid. I think my dad was just afraid of letting someone in without mom's permission.

It's just all messed up.

Does your mom rag on him all the time about everything? That'll damage his self-confidence and strengthen his indecisiveness.

Heh, my mom used to scream at me when I was younger when I did things incorrectly. Now I have to ask people to repeat themselves half the time to make sure I understood them correctly. I would hear something, but then doubt that what I heard was correct, only to realize I did interpret it correctly. And when someone asks me to do something for them, if I know they could do it themselves with very little compromise (i.e., they'll just have to spend an extra minute doing something by themselves), I'd be far less inclined to be helpful, mostly out of fear of messing it up.

I get that too.

Sometimes I find that when I get instructions at work I tend to follow those instructions to the absolute letter out of fear of screwing up. This got me in trouble a couple of times when the instructions contained something that was implied rather than laid out directly. It's like, I have to be told exactly what to do, if I get vague instructions I'm kind of just lost.

If I get a project from the onset and I know I'm the one calling the shots, then I'm fine I can work. But if I'm working for someone and he gives me instructions, I have a lot of trouble because of my fanatical tendency to try to do everything exactly word by word as instructed without flexibility

I think it's because of my mom screaming for every little tiny mistake

This is happening to me right now. I have program assignment where you're free to develop an algorithm with whatever data structures and I'm struggling because there are a bunch of ways to tackle it (I've finally decided on using a Quad tree) and I keep running into a bunch of different ways of implementing it so I keep second guessing what I'm supposed to do.

Contrary to popular belief, drinking while pregnant isn't really that bad
Obviously you should avoid it, but a beer or two isn't gonna do shit
