That's pretty impressive considering just two years ago they had cameras so bad it almost tanked the company

Scores (higher is better):

90 - HTC 11
89 - Google Pixel
88 - HTC 10, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S7, Xperia X Performance
87 - Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Moto Z, Xperia Z5
86 - iPhone 7 Plus, LG G6
85 - LG V20
84 - iPhone 6S Plus, Nexus 6P

Nice to see a pure Android phone so high on the list, though.

The iPhone 6 generation was notorious for its incredibly disappointing battery life. I know because I have one.

i have a note 5 and it barely lasts me a day idle in my pocket + 1 hour web browsing.

under the same usage my iphone 7 lasts a week or more

No one really gave a shit what these guys thought until some Android company (cant remember which) three years ago said that DxOMark claims our phone has the best camera in smartphone history!

Like Apple had the highest mark on DxO for years and they never mentioned it ever. Now every Android manufacturer brings their new flagship to these guys so they can give it the gold star DxO highest rating ever!

I'm so confused. I had an iPhone 6, 6s, galaxy s7, and currently have a s8, and iPhone 7plus

IPhone 6 had good battery for me while my s7 I was so glad to get rid of. 7plus and s8 are beast tho

Sounds like a bad battery. Does the Note 5 allow you to remove them? I forget if that version ditched the feature.

When I had a Note 4, I would literally not have to charge it all weekend. And that was with active texting and Internet use. Never came close before or after to having a phone with such good battery life. In fact, this was the reason I switched from an iPhone, since I couldn't even go half a day without that piece of shit phone dying.

It's still one of the best phones out there, with the same camera as the S6 IIRC

Lol right

It's literally the only thing that matters with a phone. Who cares how good your camera is or what resolution the screen is if you can't turn on the fucking thing.

My s6 edge, which got extremely good reviews, had roughly an hour of screen on time. I'd go to work, put the phone on silent on my desk, not touch it for 8 hours, and then when I checked it at the end of the day it'd be at like 50% battery. Forget going out for the day, id have to top my phone off at 100% and baby it so it didn't die.

Now I have an iPhone 7 and it is great. Phone lasts all day, doesn't drain when I don't use it, and is generally much more efficient. I can go out without fear I'll be stranded with a dead phone

if you can get 6-8 hours of battery life on a charge with normal use, that's not a problem to me.

Most of you probably have a receptacle at work to plug in to.

Hell, I'm in construction and I have readily accessible power.

The only time I can see the battery being such a deal breaker is on long flights. But if you're traveling a lot even planes have outlets now.

Worst case you buy a portable power battery.

Batteries have become such an over blown aspect of a phone that if it isn't a 12 hour battery it's utter garbage. Completely neglecting all the other aspects of the phone.

I agree. As long as a phones battery lasts me a full day with my typical usage I'm great with it. I'm pretty religious about plugging my phone in when I go to bed at night, so I have no real need for a battery that lasts longer.

I just got rid of my Nexus 6P because the battery was starting to go, and I wasn't able to get a full days usage out of it. Bought a OnePlus 3T and I couldn't be happier.

It's really good.

I'm a heavy phone user as I have 2+ hours of train commute every day. Screen will be on for an hour straight in the morning and I won't go under 90%.

The same commute on my year old iphone 6s would take it from 100 to 60.

I don't remember the 6s being that bad when I first got it though, so hopefully the S8's battery is pretty resilient.

whats the point of having a nice phone if its always dead or you're forced to be tethered to an outlet multiple times per day?

I mean some people do obsess over it too much but I find waaaaaay more people obsess over the camera or the raw specs which rarely improve their day-to-day use the way having a strong battery does

If a phone gives you 6 continuous hours of usage then there isn't an issue. That's a long time if you're using it for pictures, video or whatever.

If you work where you have access to power, plug it in back to 100% then unplug.

If you're taking a day trip out somewhere, make sure you charge up before you head out.

Also, if you're that conscious about the battery you can purchase a portable battery that can provide two full charges for like $30.

Again, with the way the world is for most people, the battery really shouldn't be that big of a deal. Even then there are options to make it a non issue.

If your phone is dying in 4 hours OR you're losing 50% on idle then it sounds like its a battery failure issue.

Pretty much. I think a lot more people have bad batteries than they realize, which speaks to the benefit of phones that have removable batteries still. If you leave your phone sitting around all day without even turning on the screen once, it shouldn't be losing more than 10-15% of its charge. If it goes to like 50-60% on idle, it's likely a battery issue.

A car charger made S6 battery life tolerable for me. Gotta arrive at 100%.

I read/heard somewhere (pocketnow?) that HTC reached out and formed a close relationship DxOMark when they were tasked to manufacturer the Pixel. No surprise another HTC phone tops their list. Even if these scores are fake news, I'm glad they're providing desperately needed competition in the camera space.

My Droid Turbo 2 has an amazing battery life on top of having amazing specs, a great camera, and can survive a 900ft fall into concrete without a broken screen.

Suck it, iPhone.

But I want the Pixel :(
