Man, how far not in the know would you have to be to not know that CMU is the pinnacle?

My department hires new tenure track faculty from only pinnacle tier in CS. The most popular are CMU and MIT, other schools such as Harvard for example do not fair nearly as well.

That's not the way many students saw it:

On October 7, a student wrote to the chancellor describing her encounter with a group of Black Lives Matter supporters.

The point is, neither of us actually know if it is the mentality of the majority, but it is certainly a large enough presence that the university condoned that students were put off by it. Everything from these letters to the enrollment to the alumni donations bear this out.
