I bought Final Fantasy X HD on Steam last night because I heard now there's an expert sphere grid that makes it easier to take any and all characters down any path you chose. That sounds like an awesome way to play FFX.

I remember FFXII having a pretty cool level up system too. I think on my first playthrough I started leaning Vaan towards being my white mags character because I didn't know I would have a character in my party later that was intended to fill that role.

X and XII are the only ones I've played since the PS2 era and beyond.

Which was your favorite, CE?

I liked FF6 how you could equip different magicite which would each provide different stat bonuses and also determined what magic you learned while grinding.

That was cool, as long as you didn't level up that much before you get Magicite. Which takes a little while.

I actually liked FF2's levelup system. The only people who complain that it sucked are the ones who never learned to game the system, or tried rushing blindly through the game, imo.

even then early magicite provides much worse bonuses than later magicite with Raiden being one of the best ones that you can't get until towards the ass end of WoR.

Blue Dragon's combat system is so atrocious, no level up system can make that game worth playing.

It's the same as FF9s combat system, except it lets you know when something is going to finally happen.

I started it but I never finished it and I don't remember much about it. I'd give it another chance even if ChromaticAngel thinks it's atrocious.

The only major flaw Blue Dragon has is the damn kicking system to find goodies, ignore that and it's a fantastic turn based RPG.

Idk if you want to count this as a level-up system, but I love the way you learn skills in FFTA.

If you play these sort of games for characters and story, then don't.
Blue Dragon's plot is terrible, and the characters are even worse.

It is a really tough game if you don't know how to. Everything just kills you and trying to grind like you would in other games isn't very effective.
Once I learned a bit how it worked, it became my favorite leveling system.
