I was in Manhattan and New York New York and I saw the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and Empire State building. Those were pretty cool, especially the over view of the city from the top of the Empire State Building. But the people were annoying because they kept honking their horns. Every minute you hear a horn honk and people are always in a rush to get somewhere. The thing I don't understand is why. The city is pretty run down and the subways are really ghetto. Also there are a lot of people who don't want to work so they try to "entertain" people by dancing and playing crappy music. Also, it seems like people get pissed if you stand on the left side of an escalator. I had one guy say "Excuse me. Can I get by?" When I was on the left and there was a guy right next to me on the right so I figured he just needed to get by so I said "Sure." But then I realized what was happening and so I started going up escalators on the left side on purpose and waited for someone else to say something because I was going to tell them to go around, but never got my wish.

It just seems really dirty and the buildings look out dated and its kinda funny how people there dress like they are in the 90's. Made me feel like I went back in time. If you are planning on going and have never been, just see the main tourist things like the ones I mentioned and maybe Time Square, Central Park, and Broadway Street, then GTFO. Traffic sucks, people there think they are the shit and it's not what I was expecting really. I would take Las Vegas over NY any day.

Honestly, you sound like a horrible tourist. I am not trying to defend NYC at all; I had to work there for a bit and it was pretty mediocre to me as well. You sound miserable though.

Born and raised New Yorker but I'm not going to sit here and tell you it's for everyone. Thanks for at least giving it a visit. Some people talk crap about my city and then mention they've never actually been. I'll never talk crap about a city unless I've been to it.

Lol if you were blocking people from moving, of course they'd be mad at you. That doesn't mean that they think they're hot shit. It means that you're preventing people form getting where they need to go.

Lol sure no problem. Same here, if you haven't actually experienced something, why talk crap, never understood it.

Btw, I'm not miserable just didn't care for the city. I think it's just been over hyped by T.V. and movies.

in NYC's defense, you did go to all the ultra tourist-y areas, so you didnt get the real full experience of the city. anyone who actually lives in NYC or goes there frequently will avoid places like Times Square like the plague.

it also takes some time to get used to how to walk around the city, since there are a lot of unwritten rules and all that. like when you said everyone is in a rush to get places, well they either are or they aren't, but that's just how people walk around in NYC, and once you get used to the pace, get comfortable with crossing streets and shit like that, it gets a lot more tolerable to move around.

that being said, yea it is a dirty and crowded city, and it does feel very run down in most parts, even the really expensive, exclusive parts.

you went to the busiest, most densely populated city in the entire country (on a workday) and then were surprised when people were moving quickly and getting annoyed that you're blocking an escalator? lol

lol no way, would never move there. I'd rather go to Kansas than NY.

Also the time square thing happened because people there don't know how to fucking drive. how to drive in NYC:

- Haul ass everywhere
- When you need to stop or slow down, slam on the brakes
- When you get to a stop light or a stop sign honk the horn a few times
- if you're on a bike, illegally cut in between cars

Sounds like a lot of New Yorkers that I saw. A lot of them looked drunk or high and they try to provoke violence with rude behavior. Sounds like he fit in well.

You went to the most touristy part of NYC.

I live in DC but when I visit NYC even I avoid that area.

Should've went to Central Park or Brooklyn around that area....much less tourists. I love Brooklyn's random hole in the wall shops and restaurants.

Lmao at not knowing anything about escalator etiquette. Standing on the right and walking on the left is the norm everywhere.

To be fair, I didn't know that either. It depends on where you go. In some cities that aren't as crowded, some people don't know the left escalator etiquette either.

Lmao this guy doesn't know how to use escalators

Don't they teach you from whatever backwater country you're from that the left side is the express side? If you want to stand on an escalator, stay to the right.

The one thing I respect about New Yorkers is that they don't fear death. That is admirable, to not be attached to things on earth like most people. Only explanation as to why they try so hard to provoke violence from everyone.
