Just saw quite a few good deals going on at the moment. The Mass Effect one requires the code 0W4YV3-HICY2K-V3XQZS.

Stalker has aged fucking terribly. I played it for the first time like 2 months ago and it is not good.

I know this is a sad reason, but I don't want to play ME until they add Steam achievements. I have a feeling they'll do a HD re-release with the series, though.

They're never going to re-release them on Steam anyway.

Huh... Is the game worth $30? Did they fix the animation and crash issues?

No clue, I'm refusing to buy that piece of crap. xD I hear from some people the gameplay is fun enough to justify it.

I did some graphics and interface mods as well as the unofficial update or whatever, it still seemed very meh. I always thought the games looked cool as fuck, but I think they've just been surpassed in terms of what they do.

For the most part, yes. Still needs some work, but it plays and runs much better than it used to at launch.

To elaborate, the only things that got scrapped between games are the diplomatic victory (likely due to how city states behave now) and the world congress

Pretty much every other major feature that came out in the expansions made it through: espionage (you can now do things like sabotage industrial sectors), religion (which can now be used to win the game), trade routes, tourism (got expanded)

At first glance the game might seem similar, but there's all these small changes here and there that make the game feel different enough to justify it being a sequel. For example, builders now have charges so you only have a limited use for each builder you create, but construction happens instantly. For the most part, the way things work now encourage you to look at your environment and surrounding neighbors to determine what to do rather than just build 4 cities and turtle up while generating science.

Speaking of science, I don't think there's a civ that specializes in science in Civ 6 yet per se, but there's civs that specialize on the other victory types. For example, Alexander The Great is, well, great if you just want to go to war until you conquer the world because his civilization suffers zero war weariness and you get science and culture boosts when conquering cities (depending on wonders and districts), so you can just focus on building an army and make your way up the tech and culture trees by capturing everything on your path.

I've been considering Civ 6, but I've heard a lot of complaints about the weakness and irrationality of the AI.

The AI seems to behave better now, but there's still a loophole where you can declare a joint war on someone without first denouncing your enemy and it counts as a formal war instead of a surprise war (they love doing this, but you can also pull this off if you find someone who hates them as much as you do)

Failing that, someone made a mod to alter the AI in some way but I haven't tried it myself.

But yeah, the only thing Civ V has over VI right now is that it has more playable civilizations and the late endgame feels more robust because of the world congress

oh, and Scythia is so good for warmongering it's just silly. For every mounted unit you train you get an extra one for free, and every kill gives the unit that scored the kill 50% health back

if you play your cards right, you can be like what Atilla was supposed to be like in Civ V, but good, and their cannibal thing ability lasts the whole game

Well, twice by now. It's still better than it was on release and it's now easier to befriend them, assuming you're not going against their agendas

also, the great library got nerfed so hard I think I've only built it once

yeah, I mean, there's a few civs that there's no point in playing as them right now (e.g. Spain), but they're more balanced in Civ VI than they were in V
