I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me what it's like, or experiences you've had. I will, in all likelihood, be living on campus when I transfer to UNR.

I've been to many but never lived in one. Seen all different kinds from ones that are legit 3 bedroom apartments to ones that are two people crammed into a studio apartment

At my school, dorms are only realistically fit for 18 year olds right out of high school. Which is to say that only first years live in dorms and the rest off the student body lives off-campus.

I never lived in a dorm, but I saw my friend's single dorm in first year. It was about big enough for a twin bed, desk, and mini-fridge. Communal shower and toilets down the hall. Forced to be on a shitty cafeteria meal plan and the cost of the whole thing was outrageous. Only thing that could make it worse would have been a roommate that sleeps 2 meters away from you and you can't even JO in your own bed.

I lived in the college dorms for two year and another two years in the college apartments. Apartments weren't too different from the dorms except you get your own room and shared the bathrooms, kitchen, and living room with three others.

For better or worse I had four close high school friends attending the same college as me and we ended up as college roommates/neighbors so I didn't make any new college friends on my own. The ones I did meet, I met through one of my high school friends who was pretty friendly with everyone in our dorms. All my other college friends I later met was through my engineering core classes.

The only thing bad I thought about living in the dorms or apartments was dealing with the laziness and sloppiness of some people. We had guys making a mess of the toilets, pissing/shitting over the seats, leaving their hair shavings around the sink, and in the case of one high school friend, borrowing dishes and utensils but never washing them until asked to do so.

Fortunately my dorm was the calmer dorm and rarely do you hear people blasting music. One high school friend ended up in the "party" dorm and man was it noisy there. I wasn't perfect myself as I had trouble waking up to my alarm and kept waking up one friend who in turn woke me up.

Not my dorm. My friends and I mentioned on our survey that we wanted a quiet dorm with students who want to focus on their studies and surprisingly our dorm was like that. It was only during dorm wide events that it was a little noisy. Our dorm life wasn't like any stereotypical dorm life as depicted in movies/TV series.

My one friend who did ended up in the party dorm once walked in on his roommate having sex with his, the roommate's, girlfriend. Personally for me it wasn't until my last year of college that I attended parties hosted by fellow engineering students. By then I kinda knew everyone in the civil engineering department so I had a good times at those parties.

my dorm the floors alternated boy-girl. so it was boys floor 1, girls floor 2, boys 3, etc.

it was amazing the difference in smell between odd and even numbered floors
