Absolutely dreadful. Scott is losing it. Retcons his own stuff. Either he's becoming senile, or he's pulling a Lucas. Either way, he should let the franchise die off before it turns into shit entirely. Dreadful. DREADFUL.

Still NO SPOILERS so anyone can read on.

I think the most appalling to me and the wife was the absolute imbecility of so many characters reactions in given situations. I know you must advance the plot so SOME behaviors will invariably be dumb. But we're talking WORSE than in the worst 80s B slasher flick.... and it seems to be a constant all over the movie.

The cast is decent, not amazing but not horrible, and as expected, Fassbender carries, no, SAVES the film, if there's anything left to be saved :(

Above average character development, but still way below expectations.

Visuals are stunning of course, but that's the least you'd expect.

Another problem is that by wanting to EXPLAIN too much, we had the feeling that the old git is literally KILLING the first film and craps over its mysteries in the most unlikeable way. I won't say more, just that it's almost as if he's trying to say that the first movie (which we consider a masterpiece, personally) didn't happen the way it happened (regarding the presence of eggs in the Space Jockey derelict ship) and that what you saw in it isn't what you saw. Stinks of retconning.

The plot twist towards the end, or rather 'suspenseful' unknown variable, is telegraphed as f***, you can see it coming literally before entering the theatre. It also feels like they haven't re-read the storyboard and nobody objected to a lot of incoherent stuff before starting shooting. Shameful.

The awful part is that he plans to tie it in until right before the start of Alien. And if he carries on like this. given Covenant, I don't wanna be part of this shit :/

Um... what? How can he retrocon Alien? Are you just talking about more backstory on the crashed ship?

Not really more backstory on the derelict ship, and it´s not blatant retconning, but it obviously goes into such a ridiculously far-fetched and highly dislikeable hint which relates to the eggs. I can't say more without spoiling. Bottom line, we had a bitter feeling that 1979´s Alien and everything we loved about it is on the verge of getting f***ed. By its own maker at that :/

Pointing out some major flaws in the film =/= hating. It's simply being able to have a critical approach and formulating an intelligent opinion.
But I don't disagree entirely. It wasn't a BAD film. It was even a good sci-fi film on its own. But an AWFUL Alien, imo.

Explain what makes a "good" Alien film. Most haters bash anything besides Alien and Aliens, which are two drastically different films. So your sample size for defining the rules for what makes an Alien film a "good Alien film" is quite small.

Alien is the amazing one, not Aliens, as far as I'm concerned. The second one is just a popcorn flick with machos, a lesbian, big guns and zero atmosphere.

2) And based on your sample size of one film, what makes for a good Alien film?

Alien: Awakening is a prequel to Covenant. Then after that will be the one leading into Alien. And then possibly 2-3 more movies between Alien and Aliens.

You realize this is a trilogy he's making, and he's not trying to retcon alien, but expand on the xenomorphs?

If yes and you still think this, and for much as i also think scott is either going senile or pulling a lucas with a prequel trilogy, i think you're out of your mind.
