I loved Star Ocean 3 but man, trying to get 100% on your map for any particular area was infuriating. There was always some pixel sized nook I would miss and spend a stupid amoint of time trying to find.

The story is actually pretty good, but it goes in unnecessarily obtuse directions in the later parts.

Bringing over this dumpster fire instead of SO2?

Not really surprising coming from the company that believed the absolute embarrassment that was SO5 was gonna revitalize the franchise.

Playing SO3 feels like you're playing the action scenes in the new Berserk anime.

its the 3rd but also the worst. so you could start with this one and get it over with and hope it doesnt turn you away from the rest or save it for last cause the series is probably dead now :/

Deciding which is worse between 4 and 3 is tough. 4 plays much better but man oh man is that the second worst cast in jRPG history.

For all I know 5 is even worse, though. Kind of want to find out.

5 had a lot of good in it and couldve been great if it had a budget imo. as it is its still better than 3 and 4 (not a high bar but still)

I hear technical issues are abound, especially around the dialogue and cutscenes. People constantly talking over eachother, main plot being skipped over because someone walked buy talking about going to the store or some shit.

I never had any real issues with stuff like that when I played (not that missing story beats is going to affect much in that game).

i vaguely remember something like that. like having a story convo get interrupted by a battle and them still story talking while doing all the typical battle noises. dont think it happened too much and im fairly sure i mostly just stopped moving when story talk started to happen

There is definitely some goofiness with spoken text priority, but it was only with PC or NPC banter while walking around, not during "cutscenes".

Seems like a pro after the last two games. We're talking about a series where half the games make even the dumbest entires in the Tales franchise look like literary masterpieces.

This is accurate. The story itself isn't actually very good, but there is mercifully little of it.

I really like it. It's got stupid plot twists, bad audio mixing at times, but it has Nel. She makes up for a lot of the game's problems.

1 is kinda boring and an inferior version of 2
2 is pretty great. It has horrible pacing issues, but gameplay is awesome. Characters are mostly "whatever" though
3 is also pretty great. It has an amazing battle system, and the story is actually pretty cool until the last third or so
4 is an abomination with probably the worst cast of characters in any game ever. Battle system isn't bad though
I haven't played 5

I've never played Star Ocean. I remember the first game released here got a lot of grief for the voice acting, so I didn't buy it. Then the other games came, and I didn't bother.

Maybe on a sale?
