How many RPGs make you split your party so you have multiple teams?

FFVI is the obvious one that comes to mind. But I always feel like this is a good way to have you use people you don't normally use.

Chrono Trigger has people come and go, but it isn't really the same? But also why I like it a lot.

FFVIII, IX, and XIII all did it. X kinda sorta did it. Unless you mean split parties you switch through in the same dungeon or whatever.

I mean, yeah, but when there are 100 playable characters, it means a little less...

Tales of the Abyss (PS2) - There is a part of the story where the party splits in two and as a bonus you get to pick how it splits. Then you play out both sides of the split (one first, then the other) until you are reunited.

Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits (PS2) - This one has all sorts of crazy party splits. First off, the whole game is one giant party split as you play as the humans half the game and as the daemons the other half. Each of those factions have a core party, which gets split a lot. Near the end, you even get some human-daemon party splits. I loved this game, though it got mixed reviews and is a bit obscure.

Shadow Madness (PS) - This is a not very well known, albeit unjoyable, RPG from the PS system. Graphics are incredibly outdated now. However, once the full party is established, there are several occurrences where the party splits and you play out each split. Sometimes the party would split in half. At one point they split into groups of two.

Would Dragon Quest IV count?

I know the Fire Emblem remake game coming out alternates between control of two armies. In that vein, Kingdom Hearts 3D has you switching back and forth between Sora and Riku, but that's not a matter of "parties" really.

I'm super excited about the game for that reason.

Like, FE8 would've been so great if you alternated between Ephraim's and Eirika's armies.

When does Suikoden 2 do it? I don't recall.

Suikoden 4 and Tierkreis both do it too (although only for short sequences in the case of the latter), so it's most of the series regardless.

FF8 was the first thing to come to mind.

I don't count FF13 because the party never really comes together until chapter 11. It's just different story segments told by different people, just like DQ4.
