I'm in grad school and about to enter one of my last free summers so I want to make my travels count. My friends are scattered across the earth and hard to schedule with, but South Korea early June seems like it can be feasible.

But with all these North Korean bomb testings, do you think I'll be ok? >_>

Also feel free to share any tips and experiences you've had. :D

Why South Korea though? It's a boring, lifeless country. Japan would at least have more to do.

lol I know most of their chest-pounding is most duds, but that proximity tho >_>

And I have a friend there so a reason to go. I like the food and culture, and it'll be cheaper than China/Japan.

For decades, NK threats have made literally no impact on the general safety of South Korea lol.

And Korea is not lifeless. It's got a great nightlife and pretty much phenomenal quality of food no matter where you go. I guess if you really like the otaku culture, there's actually not that much to see unless you really dig for them, but there's a lot to do and a lot of pretty places to see.

But of course the core reason is to eat. Eat and eat and eat

That's true. It is Trump in charge now though. >_>

I think I can be a savvy traveler. Hoping to do Seoul, visit my friend in Cheongju/Jeongju (forget which one lol), relax in Busan, and maybe do Jeju Island in two weeks. I'll have to ask for something to do other than Jeju since it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

I don't know. Being in Seoul could potentially be a danger in the less than 1% chance that Kim somehow both loses his mind and becomes competent.

Hell no.

You'll be hard-pressed to find proper video game stores in SK, and when you do they'll demand outrageous prices from you and you have no choice but to pay what they want, because stores are few and far between so they have practical monopoly, and in the rare cases a few of them are together(like in an electronics market or such) they confer together to fix prices.

If you're shopping online, unless you're using some downloading service like Steam everything's going to charge overseas shipping.

Forget about buying video games if you're visiting SK. This ain't Japan.

That's like Malaysia. Games are like $100+usd there. Thailand luckily is on par with the west when it comes to games at least (cheaper at times), just hard to find places that actually sell them anywhere outside of Bangkok. I live in the 4th largest city in the country and I only know of one place to buy games.
