The perpetrators state two reasons for doing this:
1. To help protect Earth by reducing the demons' reserves.
2. Because they wanted to exert their own power over these otherworldly creatures.

The demons being summoned are from a class that is almost always malicious, and would have embarked on a human-killing/eating spree if left to their own devices.

No, If they summon the demon and it ends up being too powerful and kills them then it's free to rampage the earth and how do I know it's not going to summon more of its demon friends

Admittedly, this was inspired by that scene in Yu Yu Hakusho when young Sensui stumbles upon the Black Black Club's Feast of Human Vices, where those rich guys were torturing and killing demons for their own amusement.

Though for this topic, I envisioned the demons as from a more westernized, Judeo-Christian origin.
