And, is that stuff good for anything or do you ever use it, do you think?

College level maths.

I'm constantly doing mental maths in my head, but I rarely use anything other than that.

I did Calc 2 and haven't had to use it so far in life, and if I continue down my career path, I'll never need it. But it was kinda fun learning it.

diff eq. is considered higher than calc 2 and 3? Have any of you guys ever taken organic chem?

linear algebra was the hardest class I've taken in math so I'll go with that. I thought it was harder than calc 2.

I ca't remember what the names of the classes were for pre-reqs to p-chem, but it was pretty damn crazy. By majoring in chemistry I pretty much had a defacto minor in math.

Statistics (a really basic one like 101, whatever the entry level one was)

Didn't go any higher than that. Never did any form of calculus in HS or college.

I was/am liberal arts, not much of a math/science person. I wouldn't do completely terrible in math/science courses but it'd probably be a low B or a high C (and that's for the more entry level college courses in those areas that I took for general ed)

I've been taking an online class in machine learning, though I haven't done anything on it in like a month. The math is kind of a headache. A lot of it seems to revolve around the ability to look at some formulas and figure out how to vectorize the code so that you can take advantage of parallelization instead of using for-loops.

Yeah implementing ML algorithms is pretty straightforward. It's good to try and get intuition behind the algorithms since you'll likely be treating algorithms as a black box.

Lots of interesting math in ML really challenging stuff but very rewarding to learn the theory.

I just finished my semester here is the course page with nice links to free books: http://francesco.orabona.com/teaching.html
