The error here is that you're assuming a DVD player to be basic technology.. It might be to you, but there's a pretty good chance it's not to them.
I remember a particularly good example of this from a TEDtalk, where the man giving the talk mentioned he had found his daughter making paper laptops to play with. He told her that he never made paper laptops when he was a child and asked her if she could think of why that was.
