I was thinking of booking a trip there.

The only drawback is that I don't drink. Is it still a fun city if you're sober?

I've been there pre-Katrina circa 1999. I had fun while sober. <_< Some parts you gotta steer clear though..

I used to live in Baton Rouge. There's plenty to do without drinking, but I haven't been since I left in 2012. I understand things are more heated, with the sjws defacing historic artworks and whatnot.

I heard New Orleans is bad, but is it fine in the tourists areas like the French quarter and bourbon street?

When I went last year I saw police every other block on bourbon street. Had a local tell me the police keep bourbon Street safe as possible. Warned me not to try walking any of the other french quarter streets after dark and stick to the main streets or Bourbon street.

Personally I wouldn't spend a lot of time in the french quarter. There's some fun things to see but to me it felt to much like a tourist trap. And every other street smelled like an open sewer. There were homeless ( or maybe just drunk people) sleeping on the side walks in the shade. Pools of unidentifiable liquid to walk around or over. Go in, spend half a day seeing the sights, then head else.

I read somewhere that they expect tourists to know their lingo, and if you don't and call something the "wrong" thing. they mock you.

I went 2-3 years ago without knowing anything to know about New Orleans.

Yeah, I think I lost my time there other than some nice sights to see, which wasn't much.

i only drank a little bit, definitely wasn't drunk. i had a lot of fun. you have to go to cafe du monde, get cafe au lait and beignets. go to central grocery & deli for a muffuletta.

just seeing all the crazy people is fun too. we didn't stay too late though, only until like 10. my buddy from the area said you don't want to stay late if you don't want to see the really crazy shit. like it can get dangerous.

we were mostly on bourbon street, but we checked out the french quarter as well.

i'd definitely recommend it.

I was just there last week. There's plenty of shit to do there. Go to the swamp tours and check out the gators. WW2 museum was awesome, and it's big. Go to the Mississippi, tons of places to eat (Oceana Grill was good).

As far as being dangerous, I don't know. I walked all over the French Quarters all hours of the day/night and didn't get killed. Bourbon street is a shit hole. Drunk idiots everywhere and it's all overpriced crap (and I did drink a lot, just not there).

The only incident I came across was some drunk guy threw a couple bricks at some lady and guy but he got arrested immiediately.
