How much do you think people that had shitty parents hate those holidays? Everything is about how great your parents are, if you had abusive or just generally shitty parents I feel like it would make it a frustrating time, seeing all the ads for it.

The time around it? No. But whenever I hear "Happy Mother's Day!" I immediately think (and sometimes even say) "Fuck Mother's Day!"

My dad is a verbally abusive overly critical asshole, but he has good days. It's just anything can set him off sometimes and I don't want to be anywhere near him.

So yea, Father's Day and his birthday are annoying because we never know what to get him and he always finds something wrong with something so there's always a mood-killer at some point during the gift opening sequence. I dread it every year.

I enjoy Mothers day and Father's day, it's my sisters that usually ruin it trying to one up each other and make the other feel guilty. Meanwhile I'm over in the corner going "can I make you a cup of tea?"

Probably most. My mum is as good as dead to me so Mothers day means nothing to me and I barely care about Fathers day although I do buy my dad something. Like most celebrated days though it's all very much commercialised and you see plenty of folk following the cliche associated with said day.

I don't go in for all the holiday stuff at all. I just don't care. And these minor holidays don't make any sense to me.

Every day is a holiday if you make it through by being helpfull and celebratory in any capacity.

I didn't do a thing for my wife today ( she's not my mother so why contribute to this madness of a holiday) except accompany her on a hiking trip with the kids. I could have stayed home and napped, done extra chores, or played games but getting drenched by rain and hail in the trail was much more satisfactory.
